My name is David Carey, program director and head coach of the Alaska Boxing Academy a nonprofit program benefiting the youth of Anchorage. I am a former athlete of the USA Boxing organization and member of the 2008 Olympic Boxing Team that traveled to Beijing, China. My amateur career has been full of positive experiences. Being involved in boxing has provided me the knowledge to develop a healthy lifestyle, how to succeed in a competitive arena, and the experience of national and international travel. An additional benefit that I received though amateur boxing was exposure to different people and cultures around the world including but not limited to my competitors, team mates, trainers, and coaches.
As a boxing coach and drug and alcohol prevention and intervention instructor I have built positive relationships with youth within the Anchorage community. I am able to help them grow and learn life skills in both fields of work. I believe that blending my love for boxing and my love and my experience dealing with at risk youth I can teach physical fitness in a healthy and controlled manner while encouraging positive decision making. I can benefit the anchorage community by contributing in the development of physically and emotionally healthy young adults that can in turn give back to their families and communities.
I am very appreciative of the opportunity to share my program with you.
