*Promoting the development of physically & emotionally healthy young adults*
One Round at a Time!

The Program:

There are three pillars to the program: physical fitness, academics, and boxing instruction.

The fitness, tutoring and boxing program will provide a supportive environment to develop skills that the youth of Anchorage can carry throughout their lives:

two men respecting one another
  • Discipline
  • Self confidence
  • Commitment
  • Punctuality
  • Emotional management
  • Leadership development
  • Ability to follow instruction
  • Respect for self and others
  • Academics

This will be achieved through their participation in the Alaska Boxing Academy program. This will provide a safe harbor, free from drugs and alcohol, and an environment complete with all necessary equipment to facilitate boxing instruction and training. The training will include physical exercises to promote general physical fitness, fundamental amateur boxing technique, practice to build a foundation of basic boxing abilities and lectures to review rules, regulations and expectations of behavior in and out of the ring. These exercises are aimed to prepare each participant for competition in local, national, international boxing events, depending on each of participants personal goals.

Along with the physical training there will be a requirement for community involvement by all program participants. This will be a part of the program registration agreement. David Carey will facilitate volunteer opportunities several times throughout the year.

All non-competing athletes will need to have a parents or guardian sign a liability waiver before participating in fitness and boxing activities.

All competing athletes will be required to be registered through the United States Olympic Committee. This registration allows the athlete to compete and gain amateur bouts that are credited to their bout card. It also provides limited health and dental coverage while participating in fitness activities and competition events.

Volunteer coaches will have background checks prior to working with minor athletes. They will also be registered with the United States Olympic Committee.

Alaska Boxing Academy anticipates 40-50 athletes to participate in the program with 6-8 athletes actively competing in the USA Boxing events.
